Our Story
H2 Seating is a Norwegian company known for designing and producing innovative and comfortable quality furniture with a heritage dating back to 1941.
H2 Seating is crafting and producing comfort seating that provides the ultimate way to relax, rest and recharge. From our Norwegian base we are building furniture based on proprietary know-how, expertise and technology that has taken decades to develop, perfect and refine.
Our Founder
H2 Seating was founded by furniture industrialist Nils Gunnar Hjellegjerde, drawing on over 80 years of family expertise in designing and producing high-quality motion furniture.
This legacy traces back to 1941 when Otto Hjellegjerde established a Scandinavian furniture company dedicated to comfort seating. His grandson, Nils Gunnar, later expanded the Hjellegjerde Group into a global brand before the family exited following the company’s public listing. In 2006, Nils Gunnar became co-owner of Hove DK Co., Ltd., a contract furniture firm, and later founded International Möbel Group (IMG), specializing in recliners and functional furniture. Under his leadership, IMG became a global leader in motion furniture, recognized for its innovation and quality. After selling IMG to Ekornes in 2014, Nils Gunnar continued as a senior advisor and board director until stepping down in 2019. Now, Nils Gunnar is channeling his heritage, experience, and full focus into making H2 Seating the leading Norwegian brand of quality motion furniture.

At H2 Seating, Nils Gunnar has brought together a team dedicated to creating premium comfort furniture. Lars Inge Jakobsen, a key partner at IMG, now leads H2 Seating’s operations in Norway and oversees development across the group. Together, they are positioning H2 Seating as a premier choice for high-quality, comfortable furniture worldwide.

When you purchase a product from us, you can be assured that this will last you a lifetime. Raw materials are selected with care and sustainable manufacturing processes are embedded into our culture.
H2 Seating have made long term sustainability a prerequisite in all parts of our operations. To be more specific, we have tied this commitment to five of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Make products that stand the test of time. What is best for the environment can also make the most sense financially. There are probably manufacturers that offer furniture at a lower initial cost than us. But in the long term, taking product lifetime into account, we believe we are unbeatable.
Build an industry for the future. It is possible to operate an environmentally friendly factory anywhere in the world. It is possible to build a business based on longevity and sustainability. It is possible to self-generate sufficient renewable power for our operations. It is possible to phase out materials that are harmful to the consumers, employees and the environment.
Materials and production. We are committed to using materials that are sustainable and manufacturing processes that have a low environmental impact. We source local materials for our products, for both environmental and social responsibility reasons as well to ensure quality. We use sustainable or by-product timber which comes from legal verified or FSC certified timber sources. Paint and glue are carried out in accordance with the strict environmental requirements with use of water-based chemicals and eco-friendly closed loop systems.
